Companies House and GOV.UK One Login: What Businesses Need to Do Before October 2025
From 13 October 2025, all businesses will need to use GOV.UK One Login to access Companies House WebFiling.
This is part of a wider government move to create a single, more secure login for all online services.
While the change is intended to improve security and simplify access, it also means business owners and directors must take action now to avoid last-minute problems, and potential penalties.
What’s Changing?
From 13 October 2025, you’ll no longer be able to access WebFiling with your old login details.
You’ll need to connect your WebFiling account to a GOV.UK One Login before you can continue filing.
If you currently share your WebFiling login, only one person will be able to link it.
Others will need to create their own GOV.UK One Login, using a separate email address.
This change is just the start: GOV.UK One Login will be rolled out across other government services in the months ahead.
What You Can Do to Get Ready
To prepare for the switch, we recommend:
Check your email addresses
Make sure the one you use for WebFiling is up to date.
Set up your GOV.UK One Login early
You can do this now, ideally using the same email linked to your Companies House accounts.
Have your authentication codes handy
You may need these when connecting your WebFiling account.
Plan for multiple users
If your team shares a WebFiling login, decide how to manage access once everyone needs their own GOV.UK One Login.
Think about ID verification
While not compulsory until November 2025, directors and People with Significant Control (PSCs) can verify their identity in advance.
New ID Rules
On 5 August 2025, Companies House confirmed that from 18 November 2025, all companies filing a confirmation statement must ensure directors and PSCs are ID verified.
Once verified, each person will receive a personal code.
Clients will need to provide this information to their accountant as quickly as possible to ensure smooth continuity of service.
Delays could lead to strike-off notices or blocked filings.
Companies House will also flag non-compliance on the public record.
Effectively a black mark against the business.

Why Acting Early Matters
Leaving this until October or November risks:
- Verification backlogs delaying filings
- Missed deadlines and penalties
- Strike-off warnings
- Public compliance issues harming your reputation
Acting now ensures a smooth transition and avoids unnecessary stress when the new rules kick in.
