1992

Starting Out

The roots of the current Accountancy Practice stretch back to 1992, when Mark Friend, a Chartered Accountant since 1989, set up in practice as a sole trader, M A Friend, Chartered Accountants with his wife, Jan, a Chartered Tax Adviser.

1995

Building Strong Principles

Mark’s strong belief then, as it is now, was to provide a high-quality, expert accountancy, taxation and business advisory service matched by excellent personal service. These two principles saw the practice grow rapidly, and in 1995 the practice moved to a ‘proper office’ in Northgate Rochester, Kent.

1996

First Recruitment

In 1996 Mark and Jan recruited their first employee.

2000

Our Longest Serving Employee

In 2000 Darren Hughes, one of our current Tax Managers joined the firm. Apart from Jan and Mark, Darren is the longest-serving employee.

2002

Bigger Premises

By 2002 bigger premises were needed and the practice moved to its current location in Strood, Bryant House, a beautiful 17th-century grade two listed building.

2003

Andrew Grant Joins the Practice

Andrew Grant joined the practice in 2003. Like Mark, Andrew believed that clients needed more than just accountants.

2005

Continuing to Grow

Mark and Andrew incorporated the business in 2005 and formed Friend & Grant Limited. Since then they have continued to build a dedicated team, willing and ready to serve clients’ requests at a moment’s notice in all things accounting, business support and taxation-related.

2016

Licensed for Probate

Jan Friend and Andrew Grant passed probate exams in 2016, and early the following year Friend & Grant became licensed to provide probate services.

2022

Friend & Grant Wealth Management Ltd

We formed our own independent wealth management company.

2023

Kings Hill office opened

On 9th October 2023 we opened a new office in Kings Hill to aid in our continued growth by increasing our catchment area for new team members, providing a new meeting point for our West Kent clients and increasing our potential market for new clients.

Still growing

The accounting practice has grown to a team of over 30, all dedicated to ensuring that our clients save tax, save time and create more wealth. Our probate services, business advisory and taxation services continue to grow alongside our accounting and compliance services.
