Payroll supervisor

We currently have a vacancy for someone to lead our payroll department and to assist in accounts preparation and book-keeping when required.

You will be responsible for the following: 

  • Day to day operation of 135 small payrolls ranging from 1 man companies to up to 50 staff using Sage Payroll. This includes checking and updating tax coding notices, issuing P45s, dealing with SMP, SSP and SPP applications for advance funding, provision of monthly payroll spreadsheets to clients, supply of accounts journals in respect of monthly payrolls.
  • Day to day operation of small CIS schemes (up to 10 subcontractors) using excel software and submission via HMRC website.
  • Registration and closure of PAYE/CIS schemes.
  • Implementation of auto-enrolment for clients.
  • Training clients to use Sage software and HMRC’s basic payroll toolkit.
  • Notification to HMRC of taxable benefits in kind.
  • Completion of forms P11Ds.
  • Checking client PAYE coding notices.

The successful candidate will receive ongoing training both internally and with external training providers.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a varied detailed knowledge of all aspects of payroll and will have worked previously in either a professional accountancy practice or payroll bureau.

You should have good accountancy skills - knowledge of double entry book-keeping is essential.

The skills required by the successful candidate include: 

  • Strong analytical skills - highly numerate.
  • Good organisational and planning skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Self motivation.
  • The ability to be a team player.

The basic salary will be between £25,000 and £30,000 plus bonus.

In addition after 3 months you will be able to join the company's pension scheme. We contribute a further 3% as an employer pension contribution if matched by the employee.

Payroll/tax apprentice

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a bright enthusiastic individual to join our tax department to develop a career in payroll and tax. 

60% of the work will be payroll based which will involve the operation of a number of client payrolls, calculating employees wages and tax.

40% of the work will be tax based which will initially involve the preparation of sole trader accounts, preparation of personal tax returns and dealing with tax post.

The skills required by the successful candidate include: 

  • Strong analytical skills - highly numerate- minimum grade A at GCSE Mathematics
  • Good organisational and planning skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication- minimum grade B at GCSE English.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Self motivation.
  • The ability to be a team player.

This is an apprenticeship and the salary level will reflect this.

You will be given day release to train for the AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification.

In addition after 3 months you will be able to join the company's pension scheme. We contribute a further 3% as an employer pension contribution if matched by the employee.

Expected start date will be June/July 2015.
